Learning Forgiveness through Pain

Dan Dickerson  July 2013

When we attach a strong emotion to an event, it (the memory and lesson to be learned from the event) seems to stick with us much longer. It doesn't seem to matter if it's a positive or negative emotion, either. The one variable in the teaching process is our choice to either learn from the painful event or to become bitter over it.
I can honestly say I would have never learned the depths of forgiveness had it not been for a very painful event. It was forgive and become a better person or not forgive and become a bitter person. That was a hard lesson, and took about 3 years to finish.
But I look back and am thankful for it now.

1Co 1:10

My dear friends, as a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ, I beg you to get along with each other. Don't take sides. Always try to agree in what you think.

1Co 1:10

Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

Why do we fight so much over doctrine?
Granted some doctrine needs to be defended, but do we really need to argue and disagree over so many issues in scripture. Why don't we focus on what we believe in common instead of what we don't have in common.

I've been asking myself these questions and challenging my own choices over the past few years. My mom used to tell me that we can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Maybe I need to rethink my approach to differences within the church. I can't stop other peoples argumentativeness, but I can stop mine. I will ask you to join me on this quest to end devisivness within the body of Christ, and to promote love, forgiveness, blessing of one another.
The only thing I ask is that if I fail while I'm reprogramming my subconscious i.e. renewing my mind, please don't hang it over my head like I'm not even trying.

Here we go, racing with Jesus towards the goal set before us.

Culture War
Dan Dickerson June 27, 2013

Concerning the culture war in America and elsewhere in the world. I want to encourage you with this.

God does not want us to have a fatalistic approach to life or theology. Yes, things are bad and it sure looks like sin and satan are winning the day. However..............
